Hi! I’m Laura (or Laura Caroline), a children’s illustrator living in Somerset, England, where I’m surrounded by fields, old books and usually at least one cup of tea.
I’m happiest making things and getting lost in stories. My sketchbooks are full of plants, animals and curious creatures, while my walks tend to involve collecting obscure treasures or stopping to investigate something interesting. I’ve always been curious about the natural world and the folklore woven into it.
I've always loved traditional children's books. From the cosy, gentle charm of woodland tales like Brambly Hedge to the hand-drawn maps of fantasy worlds such as Narnia or Middle-earth, books like these made me want to grab my boots and go exploring as a child. They still do!

That’s probably why I feel most myself when life moves at a slower pace. A quiet afternoon, something delicious in the oven, and drawing something with plenty of tiny details is just about perfect to me.

When I’m not drawing or painting, I’m usually reading a fantasy or sci-fi book (my favourites being anything by Neal Shusterman or Lois Lowry), looking for new plants and herbs to forage, or making friends with the neighbourhood cats. My desk tends to be covered in sketchbooks, pencils, paint, reference books and anything I find inspiring.

I recently completed my MA in Children’s Publishing at Bath Spa University, where I explored every step of the publishing process. I managed to sneak in quite a lot of illustration along the way, too!

Much of my work begins with ink and paint on paper before making its way onto screen. I love creating illustrations that feel full of little details, inviting you to stay a while and see what you can find.
If you have a project you’d like to chat about, or just want to say hello, feel free to get in touch!
